Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle have virtually vanished from the spotlight. After a rocky year, the pair has retreated from public life to spend some quality time as a couple and with their infant son, Archie Harrison. Though many royal fans had assumed that Sussexes were handling their newfound platform well — in October 2019 following their royal tour to South Africa — we realized how much of a struggle it’s really been for them.
In a revealing ITV documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey the duke and duchess were candid about how trying and brutal the press has been on their emotional well-being. Markle announced she feels like she’s simply existing instead of living. Meanwhile, the prince explained that he would do whatever it takes to protect his family. He is now suing several publishers for bullying and harassing Markle.
Unfortunately, while many people were sympathetic to the Sussexes plight — others harpooned on them for “whining.” Now — the duo have completely shifted their holidays plans to retreat from the constant pressures of their position.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are on a six-week hiatus
Leading into the Thanksgiving holiday –the prince and duchess have decided to take some time away from their royal duties. A spokesperson for the couple told Mail on Sunday, “The Duke and Duchess have a full schedule of engagements and commitments until mid-November, after which they will be taking some much-needed family time.”
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Baby Archie will spend Thanksgiving in Los Angeles
The royal couple is using baby Archie’s first Thanksgiving as an opportunity to head to Markle’s hometown, Los Angeles, California. The duke, duchess, and their little will spend quality time with Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland.
Though the couple hasn’t provided the public with any details about their holiday plans we do have some insight into what their Thanksgiving may look like. In 2014 on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig — Markle explained that on the holiday she loves to feel like “the Queen of happy bellies and full hearts.”
She wrote she “[loves] a brined, stuffed and roasted turkey as much as anyone, but if you’re just cooking for two, maybe a smaller bird is more up your alley.”
It looks like Archie’s first Thanksgiving will be full of yummy treats.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will spend Christmas in the U.K.
Royal fans were miffed when they learned that Markle and Prince Harry would not be spending Christmas with Queen Elizabeth and the royals at the queen’s Sandringham estate. However, Christmas with the royals isn’t exactly a relaxing affair so we get it.
Instead, the duo — baby Archie and Markle’s mom will spend Christmas at Frogmore Cottage. From what we understand about Markle — holidays and traditions are very important for her. We can see how essential it would be for her to spend her baby boy’s first Christmas with her immediate family forming traditions that she can return to year after year.
We just wish we got a glimpse of her holiday decorations –we’re sure they’re to die for.
