People named Mark Harmon the Sexiest Man Alive in 1986, yet the NCIS star still gets plenty of grief over the title three decades later. Harmon’s fellow NICS cast members have never let him live it down, which leads to some pretty hilarious conversations on the set. So, which of Harmon’s co-stars makes fun of him the most for his decades-old achievement?
Wilmer Valderrama pokes fun at Mark Harmon
NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama, who joined the hit crime procedural in season 14, never lets Harmon forget that he was once named People’s Sexiest Man Alive.
“We’ll be talking about vintage cars and then I would segue into, like ‘Well, you would know because you’re the sexiest man alive.’ We always bring it up. . . . He was very sexy,” Valderrama shared.
Valderrama added that it is difficult saying that Harmon was once the sexiest man alive because it is difficult looking into his eyes. But that is not because he is intimidated by his NCIS co-star.
According to Cinema Blend, the actor poked fun at how Harmon possesses eyes that are so deep if you look into them long enough you will drown.
All kidding aside, it sounds like the cast of NCIS has a blast working together, which is definitely a good thing when you consider the serious nature of the show. And while Valderrama is quick to joke about Harmon, he made it into the pages of People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue this year.
Inside Valderrama and Harmon’s friendship
When it comes to actually working alongside Harmon, Valderrama holds his NCIS co-star in the highest regard. In a recent interview, Valderrama admitted that he has a “bromance” with Harmon, whom he says brings a “beautiful” energy to the set.
Valderrama also stated that Harmon exhibits great leadership on the show and is always kind to the cast and crew. After 17 seasons on the air, it is this kind of atmosphere that makes everyone want to come back.
Valderrama believes that Harmon is also a big part of why NCIS is still one of CBS’s most popular shows. And while he has developed a good friendship with Harmon on the set of NCIS, he knows that their relationship extends well beyond the confines of the studio.
Harmon has been with the series since the very beginning. He also serves as one of the executive producers on the show.
Valderrama dishes on this ‘NCIS’ secret
Although he has only been a part of the series for a couple of seasons, Valderrama knows that cast and crew of NCIS are special. In fact, Wilmer Valderrama revealed that he knows he will stay friends with most of his co-stars even after the series ends — which is unusual in Hollywood.
He is also grateful that the characters on the show are tolerable and people he would love to hang out with in real life. This is one reason why everyone on the set is friends, but it also makes going to work easier.
“And at the same time, having the ability to create characters that you want to hang out with. You know, if you’re going to spend 12 hours with a person, aka your character, you might want to develop something that you want to spend eight-day episodes with and 24 a season,” Valderrama shared.
In a previous interview, Valderrama explained how he thinks the friendships on set are the biggest secret behind the show’s success over the years. With most of the cast actually enjoying their work, Valderrama believes this excitement bleeds over into the show.
Considering how NCIS is still going strong after 17 seasons, he might be on to something.
What’s ahead for Valderrama?
With season 17 of NCIS currently underway, there is a lot to look forward to with Valderrama’s character, Torres.
The series brought back Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David this season and it was great seeing her interact with Torres. Ziva is expected to return for at least two more episodes, and fans cannot wait to see what is in store for both of them.
NCIS, of course, has also been teasing fans with a potential romance with Torres and Bishop (Emily Wickersham). While they have yet to spark anything up, there is still plenty of time for a romance to brew.
That said, fans have been shipping the pair for a few seasons and NCIS is notorious for slow-burning romances. So it might be a while before we get anything new on that front.
New episodes of NCIS air Tuesday nights on CBS.
