Of all the celebrity breakups in 2019, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were arguably the most shocking. The pair have been together off and on since 2009 when the met on the set of their movie The Last Song. They have also been engaged to be married twice in that time frame. After dating for a long time, they finally tied the knot back in December 2018 with a private ceremony.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth split
Cyrus and Hemsworth were no strangers to breakup rumors, but Cyrus was quick to shut them down back in June. This is why fans of the actors were completely shocked when Cyrus’ representative reached out to People to let the public know that they decided to separate in August. Since the separation, Cyrus had openly dated both Kaitlynn Carter and her current boyfriend, Cody Simpson, who is a fellow musician. Hemsworth has been spotted kissing another woman, but hasn’t confirmed that he is in a relationship.
Cyrus deleted almost all traces of Hemsworth on Instagram
But just how is the former couple doing? Cyrus seems to be happier than ever and fully invested in her new relationship with Simpson. She made that apparent when she deleted all but one picture of herself and Hemsworth from her Instagram page. Hemsworth, however, has been more tight-lipped about how he’s dealing with the breakup. However, his sister-in-law, Elsa Pataky, recently gave some insight into how he’s been coping with the split.
Chris Hemsworth’s wife speaks out
“My brother-in-law, well… After a relationship that you’ve dedicated ten years to, he’s a little bit down, but he’s coping well, he’s a strong boy and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much better,” Pataky confessed about Hemsworth filing for divorce from his estranged wife, Cyrus. Hemsworth’s sister-in-law then shared that he’d spent some time in their home healing from the painful split. “Family is always there to protect you. He and his brother are so close and he’s really been there for him to give him the strength he needs,” Pataky said according to Hola!
Elsa Pataky weighs in on her brother-in-law
Of course, these statements caused an eruption in the media with countless news sources reporting that Pataky felt that Hemsworth deserved than Cyrus. This may or may not have been the sentiment that the model was trying to convey. Recently, the actress was promoting her upcoming book on the Sunrise morning show and she was asked to clarify the statements that she made to Hola! Quickly learning from her last video, Pataky stated her preference for not talking about Hemsworth. However, in the process, she also managed to give insight into how the Hunger Games actor is doing.
The actor is getting happier
“Look, Liam is doing great. But I prefer not to talk about his private life. He is the one that has to talk about it. But he is getting happier and he has his family to just go and stay with, his brothers and best friend. So that’s good, and he spent some time with us,” the 35-year-old shared. We can understand why Pataky is hesitant to share information about her brother-in-law, but we’re happy to hear that the actor is doing better post his split with Cyrus. Hopefully, the former couple can continue to be amicable amidst their very public split.
